What it's about
I've spent about twenty five years around financial markets, most of it inside retail brokerages. I helped grow two of them, and I run one now. That means I've seen how the business works from the operations side rather than the marketing side, and the gap between those two views is wider than most people outside the industry would guess.
The book is about that gap. How brokers actually make money. Why the headline numbers in the advertising are technically true and practically useless. What regulation does and does not protect you from. Where the costs you never see are hiding. None of it is exposé material, because most of it is not secret so much as unexplained, and the industry has had very little reason to explain it.
I've tried to write the book I would have wanted when I was fifteen, sitting on a paper trading account with no idea what sat behind the platform.
Why not just say the title?
Because it isn't finished, and I've watched enough people announce things early to know how that tends to go. When there's a date worth committing to, there will be a date here.
In the meantime
A fair amount of the thinking is already public. The Insights section covers several of the same subjects in shorter form, including why average spreads matter more than minimum spreads and what regulation actually protects you from. If those are useful to you, the book will be too.
It will be published by Dodechi, my own imprint.
